Take a look at the Centurion production notes, published by Pathé.ch. The document gives very much information about the production, with quotations from cast and production team.

It always helps having a great set,” says JJ Feild who plays Thax. “Nothing’s better than the real thing, instead of the green screen. You just dive into the surroundings that Neil and Simon have created.”

Director and Producer also knew the dynamism of the film would rely on the strength of the supporting cast of Romans. Marshall rounded up some of the most hotly tipped and acclaimed young actors working in the UK today. David Morrissey, JJ Feild, Riz Ahmed and Noel Clarke all signed up quickly.

It also has long vitae of JJ and the rest of the cast.

2009-12-27 Centurion Interview with Neil Marshall

Read an interview with director Neil Marshall about the filming of Centurion in the Sunday Sun!

For the first scene, the cast and crew were 3,000ft up a mountain in -18C temperatures and a snow storm that would test a polar explorer.

Neil said: “It was all downhill from there, especially for the actors. They all had to do a scene floating down rapids in an ice-cold river.

“They were in agony afterwards and one of them even went into shock, turned green and projectile vomited everywhere . . . but he soon recovered and was back to work the next day.

“The whole shoot was physically and mentally draining, but at the same time I thoroughly enjoyed being out in the driving snow, howling wind and often horizontal rain. I don’t like to make things too easy for myself, or the crew!”

Tragically, in 1967, at the height of her career, Peggy went blind from a severe brain tumor and was given five days to live, leaving her closest friends to determine her fate.
